Our top guest nail blogger Fee from MakeUpSavvy creates shimmery nails for summer... perfect to pack for holidays

Speed Dry Main image 1.png

This summer six new and exciting shades join the existing Avon Speed Dry+ range! Along with a fast-drying formula these six shades offer a wonderful hint of shimmer with subtle pearlescent flakes, that can be worn as a sheer wash of colour or built up for a vivid finish.

With a range of sea-inspired shades combined with subtle flakes the latest Avon Speed Dry+ Nail Enamels are truly unique additions. Perfect to adorn fingers and toes this summer! Here are full nail swatches, plus my own thoughts on the newest additions.

Speed Dry - Image 2.png

Aquatic tones through to sunny shades, the six latest additions to the Speed Dry+ range apply with the ease you'd expect from Avon nail polishes. However unlike most Speed Dry+ nail polishes these offer the option to be worn as sheer or opaque as you wish. With each coat the pearlescent flakes subtly layer adding depth and dimension to the nails. Below are my personal favourites!

Speed Dry - Image 3.png

Avon Speed Dry+ 'Trance' – A beautiful light turquoise that is my favourite to wear as a sheer wash of colour.

Avon Speed Dry+ 'Shipwreck' – Shipwreck is the most unique shade of the six, a sea lime green that really shows off the layered flakes in the nail polish. A perfect fresh shade for both spring and summer.

Avon Speed Dry+ 'Lure' – Another stunning blue with pearlescent flakes that give an overall shimmer. Perfect for wearing as a single coat or building up the intensity with a few coats.

Avon Speed Dry+ 'Underworld' – This could possibly be my favourite of the six new shades. Underworld is a true sea blue which mixed with the flakes really does resemble a glistening ocean! Also the least sheer needing 2 coats for an opaque finish.

Which shades do you like the look of?

Cherry nail art

Posted by AvonfabulousBlog Jun 23, 2014

We know you love a mani-Monday... Fee our nail blogger from MakeUpSavvy has created The. Most .Gorgeous. cherry nail art for you. Delicious and cute

Today I thought I'd share with you my favourite go-to nail art for summer! These detailed looking cherry nails are oh-so simple yet look wonderfully delicate and are guaranteed to get noticed.

Cherry - 1.png

Here I decided to go for a nude base but any pastel shade will look great, especially a pastel blue or white.

How to create the cherry nails -

Cherry - 2.png

What you will need – Avon Nail Art Tool, a base nail polish colour of your choice, a clear top coat, plus red, white and green nail polishes.

  1. After applying your base nail polish colour take the dotting tool end of the Avon Nail Art Tool and apply pairs of red dots all over the nails, aiming for 3-5 pairs of dots per nail. Here I used Avon Gel finish Roses Are Red – such a great vivid red.

2. Once the nails are dry repeat the step by placing smaller white dots inside the original red dots. You can do this with the Avon Nail Art Tool however take care to not overload the tip of the nail art tool and to lightly dot the white nail polish onto the nails. Tip – Avon Nail Experts French Manicure White makes for a perfect opaque white for any nail art.

3. Using the brush end of the Avon Nail Art Tool carefully paint on the cherry stems, creating little 'V' shapes with a slight flick for the leaf detail. Here I used Avon Nailwear Pro+ Wild Savanna.

4. Once the nails are fully dry apply your favourite clear top coat to finish off the cherry mani!

Expert nail blogger Fiona from MakeUpSavvy creates 6 new looks using Avon's sparkling Nail Gems

Nail Art is still huge and on trend for spring/summer so Avon have expanded their nail art range yet again with these amazing jewel toned gems.

This inexpensive nail art wheel consists of 12 different shaped gems in vivid jewel toned shades that are ideal to mix and match. And also come with a handy pair of nail art tweezers for easy application. Here I have decided to try out as many gems possible by creating 6 different nail looks.

We're giving away 10 sets of Avon Nail Gems HERE... Enter now

Gems Final 2.png

1. An evening look with striking black nails in Avon Nailwear Pro+ Licorice and an accent nail of clear tear shaped gems placed across the nail.

2. A bold summer look with Avon Nailwear Pro+ Orchid Splash and multi coloured gems to the accent nail. My favourite look!

3. Striking red nails for day or night in Avon Nailwear Pro+ Real Red with an accent nail of multi shaped red gems.

4. A subtle nail look with Avon Nailwear Pro+ Orchid Splash and single purple gems placed at the base of each nail. Any colour/gem combination would work well for this look.

5. A beautiful summer look with Avon Speed Dry+ ASAP Pink and gold flower gems dotted onto each nail. Another favourite look.

6. Back to black with Avon Nailwear Pro+ Licorice and simple but beautiful golden tear shaped gems at the base of each nail.

More amazing nail art HERE

As you can see the new Avon Nail Gems are incredibly versatile! Application is a breeze with the addition of the nail art tweezers and as long as you place the gems onto a slightly tacky top coat and finish with another coat of top coat they will stay put for as long as your manicure lasts!

With Valentine's Day just around the corner there isn't a better way to treat your nails than with a dozen red roses!

This simple nail art design can be worn as an interesting twist on the classic French manicure, or mixed up with mismatch nails long after Valentine's day.

Main pic 1.png

Our expert nail blogger Fee from MakeUpSavvy shares her rosy romantic nail look

This design is also the basic technique you will need to create any kind of floral nail, perfect for spring/summer 2014.

tutorial pic.png
  1. Start by painting your nails in your chosen pink/nude shade. Use two coats of Avon Speed Dry+ 'ASAP Pink' or 'Prompt and Pearly'.

  2. Next, take a red polish and a white polish and pour a little of each onto separate areas of a disposable surface.

  3. Then take the 'dotting end' of the Avon Nail Decoration Tool and add three or four large red dots to the tip of the nail. Then, using a smaller amount of white polish, apply the over over the top of the red. Blend the two shades lightly with the dotting tool. Here I've used Avon Nailwear Pro+ in 'Real Red' and Avon French Manicure 'White'.

  4. As you leave the nails to dry, pour a small amount of nail polish in a green shade onto your disposable surface. Taking the brush end of the Avon Nail Decoration Tool carefully paint small lines coming from each flower for the leaf detail of the design. Here I used Avon Nailwear Pro+ 'Wild Savanna'.

  5. Once the nails are nearly dry, finish with your favourite top coat to prolong the life of your floral manicure.

    Extra pic.png

    Other floral nail ideas...
This floral design works perfectly as an accent nail. Simply follow the steps above, covering the entire nail with randomly placed large dots instead of just the tips. Other nails can be painted with the same base colour as the accent nail to bring the look together, and adorned with glitter or polka dots.

Our guest nail expert Fee from MakeUpSavvy says: welcome in the New Year with these party-appropriate nails!

Both designs can be altered to suit your outfit while still looking fun and unique.

    Dotted 2014 Nails

    1. Apply a metallic nail colour to all of your nails. Here I chose my all time favourite silver – Avon Nailwear Pro+ 'Starry Sky'.
    2. Taking Avon Nail Decoration Dotting Tool and a little Speedy Dry 'Rapid Black' pour out onto a piece of paper or card, practice dotting the numbers. Keeping the dots as even in size as you can.
    3. Once you are confident in using the dotting tool start with your little finger and slowly dot on the number '2'. Then work away from that nail and dot on the rest of the numbers not to smudge your wet nails.
    4. For your thumb nail dot on a large 'Y' which will look like a cocktail glass and paint the joining centre of the 'Y' with a little gold nail polish for the champagne!

    NYE 2014 Tutorial.png

    Colourful Fan Nails

    1. For your other hand you want a vibrant fan/firework effect. To start roughly brush on lines at opposite sides of each nail with the Avon Nail Decoration Tool. To do this I used Nailwear Pro+ 'Mod Gold'
    2. Clean off your brush and repeat the first step again, brushing quick lines over the gold colour.
    3. Once the base of the fan design is dry you can then add as many colours as you wish to the nails. Here I used Speed Dry 'Reddy To Go', 'Orange You Quick', 'Fast Time Teal', Nailwear Pro+ 'Powerful Copper'.

These adorable winter sweater nails created by extraordinary beauty blogger Fee from MakeUpSavvy will take you through the festive season and into January in style.

    Winter-Sweater-Fullsize-2.png

I thought I would take inspiriation from the classic chunky jumper. Hope you like!

These can be created on any colour base though I suggest this looks best with neutral and grey shades.

    Winter Sweater Nails Tutorial.png

    1. First paint the nails with a muted shade. Here I chose to use Avon Speed Dry Smoky Plumes as it contrasts well with white design and is an ideal winter shade. Leave nails to full dry.
    2. Next taking the Avon Nail Decoration Tool Brush, place small crosses down the centre of 2 or 3 nails with Avon French Manicure White. This will act as a guideline for the rest of the crosses to keep them all in line with each other.
    3. Place more crosses down either side of the central column of crosses to fill the nail. To finish the design place small dots in-between the crosses using the dotting tool end of the Avon Nail Decoration Tool.
    4. For the other nail design carefully paint two vertical lines down the centre of 2 or 3 nails and connect with a zig-zag line. Then fill either side with as many small dots as you desire.

To complete this winter sweater print design apply your favourite glossy top coat to ensure your manicure lasts.

Party season is here, and our expert nail blogger Fee from MakeUpSavvy shows you how to create two beautiful
party looks that will add style to any outfit!

    Party Look Main Image.png

    Taped Gold Triangle Nails

    1. Paint your nails in the colour of your choice. I highly recommend the Speed Dry+ range as you need to leave the nails to fully dry. Even leave these until the next morning it you can!
    2. Once you are certain your nails are completely dry take a strip of sticky tape and cut 5 pieces at a time creating small triangles in each with a pair of small scissors. Press these firmly onto the base of each nail.
    3. Next taking a shimmer shade, paint over the cut out triangle shape making sure to be as neat as you can at the base of the nail. I used the amazing Nailwear Pro+ 'Spacey Silver' for this.
    4. Leave to fully dry then slowly peel off the sticky tape. First lifting the tape at the sides so not to pull up any of the nail polish.
    5. Finally finish with a glossy top coat and you are ready to go.

    Party Look Taped Nails Tutorial.png

    Colour Attract Star Nails

For a much quicker party look the new Colour Attract Magnetic nail colours are ideal. The range consists of 7 Color Attract nail polishes and 4 Color Attract wands to create instant nail art! Here I have gone for Colour Attract 'Gold Rush' with the Star design wand.

    1. First apply a single coat of your chosen Color Attract nail polish and leave to dry.
    2. Apply a second generous coat of the nail polish and place the magnetic wand over the nail for 20 seconds. Rest the ridge of the wand onto your finger below the nail to keep the magnetic steady and straight.
    3. Voila, instant nail art!

Recommended combinations – Hypnotic Bronze with Chevron design, Blue Attraction with Star design, Magnet Metal with Diagonal Design.

Our guest beauty blogger Fee, from MakeupSavvy, shares some adorable Halloween nail looks we think you'll love...

Trick or Treat? Here is a trick with the Avon Nail Decoration Tool to treat your nails this Halloween.

With Halloween fast approaching I have created two very simple and quick nail looks that only require two nail polishes. For adults or tiny nails try out these looks that can be achieved in minutes.

    halloween-nails2.png

Tools Required – Avon Nail Decoration Tool, Avon Nail Experts in French Manicure White and Avon SpeedDry+ in Rapid Black.

    Friendly Ghost Nails

    1. First paint the nails with Avon French Manicure. Two coats may be needed to ensure the nails are opaque.
    2. Once the nails are dry you want to paint the eyes of the little ghost onto each nails. Taking Avon Rapid Black and the brush end of the Avon Nail Decoration Tool carefully paint two 'U' shapes next to each other on the nails and slightly fill in. If you are unsure, try this out on a piece of paper first!
    3. For the ghost's mouth load the dotting tool end of the Avon Nail Decoration Tool with Avon Rapid Black and dot on an oval just below the two eyes on each nail.

Tip - To give the little ghosts more personality paint each mouth at a different angle.

    halloween-nails6l.png

    halloween-nails3.png

    Spooky Eyes Nails

    1. Start by painting the nails with Avon Rapid Black and leaving to dry.
    2. Taking Avon French Manicure in White and the dotting tool end of the Avon Nail Decoration Tool dot two dots next to each other at various angles and positions on each nail. Leave to dry.
    3. 3.     Next using Avon Rapid Black and the dotting tool again, dot a small amount of polish onto each white dot. Make sure both dots match in position so the eyes don't look cross eyed!

Tip – Try lots of spooky eyes on just one nail as an accent!

    halloween-nails4.png

To complete your easy Halloween nails apply a top coat of your choice to ensure your nails stay glossy and sleek.

Our fabulous guestie nail blogger Fee has created a vintage floral nail look which sooo tickles our fancy...

Delicate pastels are so hot right now. From fabrics and home accessories to clothing and of course nails, pastels are pretty much perfect.

    vintage-pastel---main.png

Here I have created some vintage pastel mix and match nails that you really can switch up to whatever takes your fancy. Whether you add more stripes, ditch the glitter or go for a bit of everything these nails will look perfect any time.

    vintage-pastel---tutorial.png

    1. Start by painting your nails in two alternate pastel shades – here I have used Swift Sherbet and Sprightly Mint from the Avon Speed Dry+ Nail Enamel range. Next using a glitter of your choice paint over each alternate nail, I decided to go for ColorTrend Dazzlers Top Coat in Gold Flecked over each Swift Sherbet nail.
    2. Next using the fine brush end of the Avon Nail Decoration Tool you want to slowly paint on fine diagonal stripes onto one of the nails. Tip – If your stripes look wonky then don't fear, just apply a clear top coat which will help smooth out the lines.
    3. For the floral nail you then want to use the dotting/cone side of the Nail Decoration Tool to create large splodges in a red shade, here I used Speed Dry+ in Reddy To Go. Then, while the polish is still wet, you want to go back over them with a lighter shade and merge the two shades together. To do this I used Swift Sherbet again to tie everything together.
    4. To complete your vintage roses simply add small lines in a green shade for the leaves.

To finish off your Vintage Pastel Manicure apply a top coat of your choice to ensure your nails stay glossy and sleek.
